Meet the Artist: The Story behind Moxy Studios

By Anna | Moxy Studios

Some artists go to school for years to learn their craft. Others discover it instinctively, fueled by love, curiosity, and a stubborn belief that they can figure it out. I'm firmly in the second camp — and honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

It Started with Captain America

Over 20 years ago, I picked up a brush for the first time with a very specific mission: to create something meaningful for my husband, a lifelong fan of comic books and sci-fi. The result was a large, modern reimagining of Captain America — bold, graphic, and completely self-taught. It wasn't perfect, but it was ours, and something about the process of making it lit a fire in me that has never gone out.

From that first piece, I kept creating. Whimsical oversized animals — bears peaking from the corner of a canvas, elephants rendered in joyful color — became a signature of sorts. Abstract mixed media pieces followed, layered with texture and meaning. And somewhere along the way, I developed a habit that I still love today: rescuing ugly thrift store frames and reimagining them into something beautiful. There's something deeply satisfying about taking something overlooked and forgotten and transforming it into art someone will treasure.

That's really what Moxy Studios is about at its core — transformation.

The Moment Everything Changed

For most of those 20 years, I created purely for the love of it. My work lived on our walls, in our home, in my heart. It wasn't until a dear friend — who had been using my pieces in her Airbnb properties — looked me in the eye and said "You need to sell this art" that I even considered it.

She was right.

Last year, I was honored to be named a Woman of Impact by the American Heart Association — a recognition that came with both humility and responsibility. As part of the fundraising campaign that followed, I decided to sell my art and host gallery events to raise money for a cause close to my heart. What happened next still takes my breath away: I became the highest fundraising woman in the campaign, with art sales and gallery events playing a major role in that achievement.

It was the moment I realized that art could do more than decorate a wall. It could change things.

Art as a Force for Good

That realization is what drives Moxy Studios today.

I'm proud to serve on the Ripon Arts Guild, working to strengthen and celebrate our local arts community. I also sit on the board of Cricket's Hope, a local non-profit that uses art as a healing tool for children facing difficult and traumatic situations. The work they do is extraordinary, and being part of it is one of the greatest privileges of my life.

This virtual gallery exists to keep that momentum going. A portion of proceeds from every sale supports local charities focused on women and children — organizations doing quiet, essential work that deserves amplification.

When you buy a piece from Moxy Studios, you're not just bringing something beautiful into your home. You're part of something bigger.

What You'll Find Here

At Moxy Studios, you'll find two distinct collections:

Featured Original Art → One-of-a-kind original paintings and mixed media pieces — each one whimsical, bold, and completely unique. These are the pieces I pour myself into, and no two are alike.

Prints & Gifts → Affordable prints, mugs, and gifts that bring a little Moxy into everyday life. Perfect for art lovers, gift givers, and anyone who believes their morning coffee deserves a beautiful mug.

Commissions are also open — if you have a vision, I'd love to help bring it to life.

A Note to You

Whether you're here because you love art, because you're looking for the perfect gift, or because someone sent you a link — welcome. I'm so glad you found your way here.

Twenty years of creating has taught me one thing above all else: art is a conversation. It's the artist saying "this is what I see" and the viewer saying "yes, I feel that too."

I hope something here speaks to you.

With gratitude and a whole lot of color, Anna | Moxy Studios
